Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is a therapeutic process that involves replacing infectious
blood-forming cells in the patient by the healthy blood stem cells donated by the donor.
However, search for a donor is a complex task, as successful transplantation requires a fully
Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)-matched donor.
If such a donor is not found within the
family, then the exhaustive search of appropriate donor from outside the family begins. Such a
donor is also termed as Matched Unrelated Donor (MUD).
This project aims to build the bone
marrow donor registry. This will be a web-based software that will facilitate the storage of
HLA typed results of individuals, maintaining profiles of patients/donors/medical supervisors
and most importantly, the search and recruitment of Donor.
It will be a web app based on three-tier architecture with backend on Django and frontend on various frameworks including
Bootstrap4 and Angular. After successful establishment and deployment of Registry within the
country, the next step will be to attain a membership of World Marrow Donor Association
(WMDA) to make this Registry work worldwide.
